Poor performance DHCP but Static OK
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:26:23 PM »
I have an RFS7000 running WiNG 5.5 when I connect to an AP7131 using the local SSID and using DHCP my network performance is terrible.  If I connect to the same wireless network using same info only Static performance is fine.  DNS settings are the same either Static or DHCP...so is netmask and gateway info.  It is confusing me!

I connected a dumb access point from another manufacturer and used DHCP and it all works great.

STUMPED

I should also add that if I connected wired using DHCP...all good.

It seems that there something related to DHCP and wireless.

When I did that it changed my interface that I use for management from Static to DHCP.  It did not fix the issue.  I currently have an RFS managing 50 AP7131s.  Here is the running-config from the AP.

Some of your WLANs are Local and others are Tunnel. Are you doing all your testing on the same WLANs?

Your AP has no interface in the range for DHCP so how is that giving out addresses at all?  10.80.3.0/24 which I assume is VLAN 10

Thanks for the question.  The only WLAN that I have issues with is the Local WLAN.  I am giving out addresses using the local Windows DHCP server.  The reason that I am looking at the AP being the issue rather than the local DHCP server is this:

DHCP and Wireless using Motorola = BAD
DHCP and Wireless using another manufacturer AP = OK
Static and Wireless using Motorola = OK
Wired Static or DHCP = OK

Can you add the following to your firewall-policy and try again?

 dhcp-offer-convert
 no stateful-packet-inspection-l2
 no virtual-defragmentation

I broke down and called Zebra yesterday and spoke with Tech Support.  They had me do exactly what you suggested wings and it all started working.

Thanks for your advice!  This was really causing me to scratch my head.
