Hi,

according to the screenshot, you are running 4.1.0 firmware. Besides the fact that it is really outdated fw, on all 4.x version this part number (AP-7131-66000-D-WR) can be used only with the controller. The APs radios will not come up if it will be standalone on any 4.x version.
My advise - update to any 5.x firmware, 5.4.4 is the latest one. WiNG 5 does not care about the D in the part number, therefore this AP will be able to work in both 'standalone' and 'adopted' modes.

Hope this will help.

with thanks for your advise i was going to update the firmware but i have read info saying  that DEPENDANT MODE is antitheft Security feature and is hardware coded so the motherboards are different to the INDEPENDANT MODE AP7131-66000WR i dont know if this info is correct are the AP-7131-66000-D-WR hardware locked to DEPENDANT MODE or FIRMWARE LOCKED will updating the firmware to Wing 5.x allow MODE change thats why i was looking purchasing a RFS4000 or RFS6000 controller to resolve this situation i need all the advise i can get on this one with thanks Scott

Ok,
One more time - ap7131 with D in the part number and ap7131 without D have absolutely identical hardware. Just WiNG 4 will differentiate them in the way described above, but WiNG 5 will allow both PNs to be either standalone or adopted.
If you will upgrade to any 5.x firmware - D will not matter anymore.

just suggest:
upgrade the firmware on an AP7131 from version 4.4.2 to 5.4.2 (from motorola)

I upgraded the firmware on an AP7131 from version 4.4.1 to 5.4.2(using the firmware from motorola and following the instructions of Motorola), but failed. AP7131 turned to brick.

How exactly did you perform an upgrade? Did you use correct migration image from 4.x to 5.x for AP7131?
Please provide us more details, we might be able to help you.

Thanks for your reply,

How exactly did you perform an upgrade?

I choose "firmware update" via GUI . The file name is "AP7131-5.4.2.0-030R.bin" (Motorola support sent me this file) and I used tftp to upload the file. Click on Perform Update button to begin.
No error information, all good, but after that, AP7131 can only boot normally.

Did you use correct migration image from 4.x to 5.x for AP7131?
the file which I was using was sent from Motorola

Please provide us more details, we might be able to help you.

after booting for a while, it was showing:

process '/mnt/ramroot/dopivot' (pid 617) exited. Scheduling for restart.process '/mnt/ramroot/dopivot' (pid 619) exited. Scheduling for restart.process '/mnt/ramroot/dopivot' (pid 621) exited. Scheduling for restart.process '/mnt/ramroot/dopivot' (pid 623) exited. Scheduling for restart.process '/mnt/ramroot/dopivot' (pid 625) exited. Scheduling for restart.

boot> sh info
platform = ap7131n
mips_clock = 500.0MHz = 500000000Hz
baud_rate = 19200
clocks_per_sec = 976562
base_mint_id = 0x0

boot> sh boot
boot image1 7 times before falling back to other image
NOR image1: OK
NOR image2: ***Invalid***

Hi,

I would suggest to reboot into first partition from the bootloader (I dont remeber commands from the top of my head, but something pretty obvious like 'boot image 1' or similar), since second one is corrupted.

After that go to motorola support page, download the latest (5.4.4) firmware for AP7131 and use special Migration image from 4.x to 5.x included in the download (when you will download the zip file, there will be a folder "Migration Images" inside), be sure that you are using AP7131-61 image, not AP7181, as it will be there as well.

Also, do the upgrade via CLI and ftp, to 1) ensure file will be transferred reliably in one piece, and 2) to see any error indications in CLI (if any, as in GUI you wont see as much).

Hope this will help.

Thanks for your sharing,

but there is no tftp / ftp option, that's the problem.
for AP5131, it's easy to use tftp to load a firmware, don't know why there is no tftp / ftp option on AP7131

on AP7131 there is tftp/ftp option as well. I believe it was under system->fw-update, you can specify ftp/tftp server address and then only issue 'upgrade <mode (ftp/tftp)>'. I dont have 7131 with me to check, probably will get to it next week, but the option is there for sure, I did this several times.

Btw, I was talking about upgrading via normal 4.x image (not via bootloader), just to clarify.
