Not sure about AP650, but when I had to factory reset AP6532, I was given a small windows application by Motorola support called the "AP Discovery and Reset Tool"

I believe it is also in the firmware file somewhere, if you dig around in there.

It requires you to connect directly to the AP using your PC. You will also need the serial number of the AP to use as the password.

How would I connect to my PC?  Just ethernet cable?  I dont have the IP either, that is part of the problem.  And I do not think it has VLAN 1 configured on it anymore....so it will not get a DHCP address.

Just a straight-through ethernet cable will do.

The application interacts with the AP at Layer 2, so no need for any IP addressing whatsoever.
(If there is a ZeroConf IP address set on the device, the app will display that info as well)

I can't find the "AP Discovery and Reset Tool" anywhere.  Do you know where I can find a copy?

The Discovery tool comes with Access point software downloads (not controller software downloads).  However this tool is named "DiscoverApsNoReset"  There must be another version of this issued my Motorola support.

What is the history of this AP - Software version , did it have a IP assigned.  Did it work then you get locked out after a config change?  Might be able to suggest another way of getting at it - locked myself out of a number of AP650.

Thanks
Chris

It is ver 5.2.  It was working properly, then I got locked out after a config change.  It had DHCP IP address on it before and I could access it.  I think I may have removed VLAN 1 from it.  Not positive what I did.  But it no longer picks up an IP and other AP650's still pick up their IP's.

Do you have the APs configured to "persist configuration across reloads"

Device or AP profile => Mangement => settings

Posting your controller config would be good.  What controller are you using?

Thanks Chris

The AP's are not set for Persistent Configuration Across Reloads.

Using an RFS4000 controller.  Running version 5.2.0.0-069R.

Here is part of the controller config:

If the persist across reloads is off your AP doesn't store any config in the AP non volatile memory.  It should boot and attempt to find the controller via L2 broadcast and then get the config from the controller.  It might also look at DHCP options for the controller address.

Is this AP at a remote site or connected to the same Layer 2 network as the controller?  are you connecting it directly to the rfs or to another switch? How are these ports configured?

Thanks

It is connected directly to the rfs4000, but it is not getting an IP.  Other similar AP650's are getting their IP's.

It is a trunk port, with several vlans......native is 1

on controller:
interface ge1
  switchport mode trunk
  switchport trunk native vlan 1
  no switchport trunk native tagged
  switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,201-209,1010,1100
  ip dhcp trust
  qos trust dscp
  qos trust 802.1p

The AP should be sending untagged packets to discover the controller.  Is your Mangement vlan on your controller vlan 1?

Have you tried configuring ge1 as an access port on your controller Mangement vlan?  Also set an override in the ap650 config on the controller to set its Ethernet port to match otherwise it could adopt then get disconnected when it receives it's config from the controller.
