Waht is the best console for Android
« on: January 09, 2014, 01:54:49 AM »
I try to figure out wich is the best console app for Android.

I have a serial RS232 >> USB adapter wich I connect via an OTG cable to my android Tablet/Smartphone.
Works plugn play , tested with 2 different adapters, both are recocnised by the android OS without any problems.

Now I need a terminal App with that I can login to a switch.
Tested several but couldnīt find any app that is good.  There are two general problems,
I need that the App display the console output probably and I need support for "CRTL Y" to login into Avaya switches.

If anybody could point me to an App for Android that works fine, I would be very thankful.

Cheers

I just spotted this post and thought perhaps I could answer to your inquiry. But, first I am assuming you wanna access a serial console port on other devices through a USB port on your hardware running on an Android OS. If this is the case, then an open-source terminal package called minicom may be what you are looking for. It is a plain-text terminal (no GUI) that can emulate VT-52, VT-100, and/or an ANSI terminal. I used it on my LaFonera FON2100 to trouble shoot other hardware through serial/console port. What I meant is I have a LaFonera FON2100 flashed with a self-built OpenWRT firmware to include minicom and use its serial port to connect to other hardware serial/console for troubleshooting. It works fine without a problem.

There are a number of terminal emulators available in the play store. The Android terminal emulator and the Terminal IDE had particularly good reviews.

Do you have tested any of these Apps ?

In most cases the "Ctrl Y" is a real problem that you need to enter the console of an Avaya stackable Switch.
