Site Survey
« on: January 07, 2014, 11:10:57 PM »
We perform many types of wireless site surveys for wireless gear including Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, etc. I was wondering for the Juniper WLA series if there was a way to do a site survey of a new location without a controller. Do they have a site survey mode or firmware like others? Or do you have to also purchase the $2500 controller for it? I have looked through Juniper's guides and Trapeze and have been unable to find anything.

Juniper offers RingMaster as a management tool which also can complete a site-survey of a specific area.
Regarding your questions if you need a controller to do this; no not neccesarily. You can use RingMaster to do the site-survey but in the end you will need a controller (or VM) to manage and control the access points.

There is a ringmaster planning tool as well.  Import your .dwg's that are cleaned up of millwork, plumbing, etc, and then set your expectations up on the system and it will plan the site for you.

Note, I know it works - I've seen it done.  I just haven't had experience doing it myself.
