New software code 8.0MR2
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:40:35 AM »
Since a few weeks Juniper has released its 8.0MR2 software code for the WLAN series. On july the 6th I updated my 8.0MR1 to this new version. The WLC and WLA software updates went seamlessly as ever and took me about 2 hours to complete the entire hitless upgrade. Without hitless upgrade this would take less than half an hour with 4 WLC2800 and +500 WLA's (ofcourse all depends on the upgrade mode en size of your WLAN).
RingMaster and SmartPass upgrade went fast, restored all configuration and monitoring data without any issues.

I've been using this code in the production environment for almost 4 weeks now. Athough it did not solve all of my current issues that I'm facing with 8.0MR1, it surely did reduce packet loss (retransmits), solved the audio/video streaming issue, fixed WLC and WLA crash bugs and improvement regarding the auto-tuning feature. One of the  issues that I ran into, was when I changed the channels in ringmaster on the access points, ringmaster showed the new channels but when checking this by CLI, the access points showed the old channel number. The ringmaster changes never got to the access points. This has been fixed and channel changes made in RingMaster will now also be applied to the access points.

RingMaster istelf now uses less CPU and is more responsive when using this tool. The former 8.0MR1 version did hang week after week and consumed more CPU cycles than ever.
SmartPass is still stable and fast as ever.

I'm still working with JTAC on some current issues, which of several are already confirmed by JTAC to be solved in the next releases.
My experience so far with JTAC is they are very helpfull and eager to fix these issues, which gives me convidence when upgrading to new releases. If issues occur they should be fixed a.s.a.p.!
