New software code 8.0
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:39:25 AM »
Juniper has released software 8.0 for its Wireless LAN Services (WLS).

The following software and there enhancements are available:

Mobility System Software 8.0.2.2

- WLA532E
- Adaptive Channel Planner
- Transmit Beam-forming
- IPv6 Support
- Device Fingerprinting

RingMaster 8.0.2.1.0

- Adaptive Channel Planner
- Transmit Beam-forming
- IPv6 Support
- Device Fingerprinting

SmartPass 8.0.2.1.0

- IPv6 Addressing Support
- Device Finger Printing

Pretty interesting how the Transmit Beam-forming feature should increase the signal-to-Noise ratio and improves the client performance. Hopefully this increases the quality of the WLAN connectivity.
The IPv6 support is a feature which I'm in need of because it now allows our support engineers to remote control our devices using Microsoft Direct Access. This IPv6 support is limited to clients using IPv6 only. IPv6 configurations within the WLAN is not possible.
Another new feature, called Device Fingerprinting, let's the WLAN recognize different devices connected to the WLAN. These can then be managed based on configurable profiles. I much needed feature as companies are being flooded with BYOD.

Please refer to the documentation on the Juniper site for additional information about this new software:

I recently upgraded two WLC2800 from release 7.7 to 8.0 in a test environment without any issues. I've tested the new release and so far did not encounter any issues. Planning to test the new features soon and plan the upgrade in the production environment.
As soon as I have the test results I will update this topic.

Anyone already upgraded to this new release and its features? Your experience with this new code is welcome.
