connection to the active server - Infoblox
« on: October 01, 2014, 07:09:47 AM »
I am a beginner and I have to take a solution using two Infoblox boxes.

Currently, a server is active (master) and the other is passive. if the first fails, the second takes over. I use Perl API, how do I know when I try to connect to a server ,if it is the active server or the passive server?

I would only make the connection to the active server,

I have thought about the method active_position() of Infoblox::Grid::Member but I dont know how to use it and what it returns..

Thank you in advance

In normal Cases you have a Grid Master and a Grid Master Candidate in your Infoblox installation.
Bind your script to the DNS name so that you always adress the actual Master.
Its always the networks fault!

You can pull that information via snmp in your script.
Why do you want to know wich one is the master ?

Usually you have a Gridmaster and it will stay as gridmaster as long as you have no failures
on that box.

I developed an application that connects to a box Infoblox and who recovered the shareds networks .. The problem is if I give grid master candidate in parameter, it will not work.
That is why I ask whether it was possible to give @ip of the cluster, and if he knows how to use only the active server.

What Dominik is saying, don't use the IP address, use the correct DNS name and that DNS name will follow the master not matter which appliance is master.

I thought I recall those being a virtual VIP and that interface was shared between both boxes, no?
