Hi gibroni and welcome to the forums!

As you probably know the Metro Ethernet Routing Switch product was sold to Ciena. Thankfully the old Nortel website still has a large repository of documentation available on the MERS 8600. If you haven't already I would suggest you rush out and start downloading the documents that you believe might be of any interest. I don't expect that documentation to be around for too much longer now that "Nortel" is in it's final gasps for breath.

Good Luck!

Hi Michael and to the rest of the guys,

I want to congratulate you on a brilliant forum and blog.  Saved my bacon in the early days of implementing Nortel switching stacks using SMLT with a Cisco core.  I am now enjoying giving something back to new and existing members who have had similar problems to myself  :)

I'm from the UK and been working in Networking for 19 years (Can you believe it?).  I currently provide Network support in a multivendor environment which comprises of a Cisco core with Nortel Edge/Server stacks.  VoIP provided by Nortel CS1K.  Security predominantly provided by Checkpoint, Sourcefire and Nortel Ignition.  Network monitoring by Solarwinds.  Keeps me very very busy.  Experienced and certified over the years in Cabletron/Enterasys, Cisco, Extreme, Checkpoint, Nortel/Avaya and recently Sourcefire.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for stopping by.

I had to drive into Philadelphia last Friday and it took my 90 minutes to get home when I left the city at 3PM. It seems the construction on 476 had 76 backed up all the way into the city going toward 202. I'm happy I don't have to-do that too often.

Cheers!

Hi everyone
I've been lurking around the site and forums quite a lot recently, so I thought it was probably time to register  ;D

Congrats on creating one of the best resources for Nortel/Avaya on the net.  I'm going to need it too, since my employer has recently replaced their entire Cisco-based core and edge solution with a combination of 5632FD, 5650TD-PWR and 5520 switches!  Hopefully I might be able to help some folks out too.

I'm in the UK and been working in networking and IT security for about 10 years.  As well as the Avaya kit mentioned about I also use and maintain Juniper, Cisco, Bluecoat, F5 and Checkpoint.

Regards
Pete

Hi dinistic,

Thanks for checking in... there are quite a few folks here from the other side of the pond (Atlantic Ocean) so you're definitely not alone!
