Wins support in Infoblox DNS hardware
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:20:27 AM »

We were informed by our service provider that the our wins server will be decommission very soon.

Can you pls help us find out whether there is any impact to our servers if there is no wins server? We checked with our TCOM Team and they  told that wins feature were located in their DHCP/DNS Windows server. Now they have moved to Infoblox hardware.

Do we have  wins support in infoblox DNS and how  it handle NetBIOS requests ?

Why are you using WINS?  If you are running Server 2003 or higher, and all your clients are 2000 or higher, you would be fine using DNS, assuming your AD system is in the DDNS allow list to push your AD DNS structure into Infoblox.

You won't find WINS support in Infoblox but you can provide short name (WINS name) resolution utilizing DNS with the proper domain name and/or search suffixes.

Good Luck!
