MLXe Power Issue
« on: March 20, 2014, 04:59:17 PM »
Anyone else had problems with their power supplies in the MLXe routers reporting back with all X's when you do a "show chassis" command?  When plugged in with 110v power they seem to report just fine.  If you plug 220v in to them they report back with all X's instead of displaying the model and serial number of the unit.

Hi Telair,

This does sound odd. I can try making an inquiry but may I ask what firmware version are you running? Also, which specific model of MLXe do you have? MLXe-8 or -16, -32, etc. Finally, do you have it fully populated line-card wise?

Sorry to be responding with questions!

This unit is an MLXe-4 running v5.4.0d on it.  No, it's mostly empty.  One 10Gig 8-port card and three 24-port copper cards.  After unplugging and plugging the hot-swap power supplies a few times, it finally registered on one of them.  As you can see below, one is still partly obscured.

*** MLXe 4-slot Chassis ***

---POWERS ---
Power 1: (     23-00001 BMG2M02J0X7  - AC 1200W): Installed (OK)
Power 2: (     23-00001 BMG2M02J0VZ  - AC 1200W): Installed (OK)
Power 3: (     23-00001 BMG2M02J0ZJ  - AC 1800W): Installed (OK)
Power 4: (     XXXXXXXX BMG2M02J0XY  - AC 1800W): Installed (OK)
Total power budget for chassis = 6000 W
Total power used by system core = 450 W
Total power used by LPs = 726 W
Total power available = 4824 W

Thanks for the extra info Telair. Funny thing is I would say that re-seating shouldn't change the outcome since it appeared to be dependent on 110v verses 220v before.  But, I'm doing some further checking for you.

Hey, no problem.  It seems to work still.  Just one of those glitches I was wondering if anyone else has come across.

Hi Telair,

Sorry about the delay! So, here is what I heard back regarding your issue. The part number, regardless of AC Input Voltage, is loaded in the same register location for the SW to read. So, the couldn't come up with any idea how this can be happening to you. If it should become a problem, the next step will probably have to be a call into TAC.

Sorry, I know it isn't much.

It's not a production issue and we are upgrading the software in a week.  So I'll see how it looks after that and let you know if there is any effect.

That is good to hear. Thanks for letting me know. I'll pass that along to my contact over here as well.
