Power supply slowly dying
« on: September 13, 2010, 01:14:57 AM »
It seems that the power supply in my desktop PC is starting to slowly die. My desktop PC wouldn't power on tonight until I unplugged the PC from the wall and then plugged it back in again. The last power supply did the same thing a few years ago until it finally died and no amount of unplugging it from the wall would get it to come to life.

I was hoping to spend some money on a new display and perhaps even a new graphics card. The current 8800GTS is having a difficult time keeping up with Battlefield Bad Company 2. That might have to wait now as I'll probably need to purchase a new power supply... the current power supply is an Antec TP-550, perhaps those have lifetime warranties?

Cheers!

In my opinion, Antec is one of the best power supply vendors and for that reason i've use them very often in my "hand made" PCs. For example, I have a file server for a small company build around a Antec case/PSU and it worked flawless for more then 3 years now - 24/7/365.

Maybe you have problems with your electricity company and a good UPS will solve this strange behavior.

Hi cielo,

It seems that my report was premature because that same Antec TP-550 is still running strong today. I'm not sure what happen to the PC that night but things have been working fine ever since. In general I would agree with you regarding the Antec brand, unfortunately given how many computers I have in my house the law of averages is bound to catch up to me and it has from time to time. In this specific case though I seem to have dodged the bullet.

Thanks for the response!
