Nortel 1010 packet loss
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:08:45 AM »
We have some remote offices connecting into our head office using Nortel 1010s.  The head office Nortel 1010 was set up 7-8 years ago (internet - ADSL router - Nortel 1010 - switch - corp network).  The head office ADSL router stopped working recently and we could not get it powering up again.  BT (British Telecom) sent a replacement router but we can't get the Nortel 1010s connecting again.  The issue is that we are getting 30-35% packet loss when we ping the external IP of the head office Nortel 1010.  The successful pings show good response times <100ms, you tend to see 5 successful pings than 2-3 timeouts.  BT have checked our ADSL router and our internet connection and cannot find any faults.  I also connected a laptop to the router and assigned it a static IP - when pinging this laptop I don't get any packet loss.  I have replaced ethernet cables and replaced the Nortel 1010, and used different static IPs.  I have even tried a different ADSL router.  I always see packet loss when pinging the Nortel 1010's static IP but not when pinging the laptop's static IP.  I have done lots of tests using different MTU settings on the Nortel 1010, and changing the duplex speed settings (on Nortel 1010, ADSL router and switch) but it has made no difference.  I have run out of ideas what to check next  :(  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi SiRo and welcome!

What version of software are you running? The early versions of software would intentionally start dropping ICMP packets from a specific host after X amount had been received. If you check the logs you might find some reference to the event. What if you issue a ping within the tunnel?

What do the interface status show you? Any errors?

Good Luck!
