contivity client on Windows 7
« on: May 14, 2011, 08:30:57 AM »
I am trying to set up a the Nortel 64 bit contivity client to run under windows 7 Professional.  My difficulty is that the client I'm connecting to doesn't really support windows 7 & they have pre-packaged installation for the 6.2 version (XP).  I can run their XP stuff inside of a virtual PC,  but would rather not.  When I try to set up the Win 7 compatible client, it insists on me providing a group ID & password to go with the hardware response tokenization security used by the client (an RSA key fob).

Is there a way to extract/migrate the connection settings out of the client's 6.2 install so I can use it with the 10.xxx Contivity client?

Hi chipmilosch and welcome to the forums!

The easiest way to proceed would be to get the necessary client configuration information from whoever is running your VPN router.

I believe you can recover some of the configuration information from a "package" deployment but the password is probably put through some MD5 or SHA hash.

I would advise you contact your system administrator and request they provide you the information (or repackage the latest client).

Good Luck!

Unfortunately they won't repackage under Windows 7 client since they still deploy equipment under XP.... (shudder!)  running the old client inside of the XP virtual box was suggested by a helpful Help Desk guy.

Sadly, if there is no 'export connection' / 'import connection' methodology, I'll have to rely on the virtual machine solution.

Are they unwilling to provide you the information?

You could probably dis-assemble the MSI (assuming it's an MSI) and then just try looking for the configuration information within the archive. Look at your virtual XP machine... search the Nortel folder are there any text files that you can open and search with notepad? I believe the configuration is still stored in a file and not in the registry.

Good Luck!
