Avaya/Nortel VPN Client Issues...
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:40:51 AM »
Hello,

We have been using Nortel VPN Client 10.01.052 on Windows 7 64 bit.
This has been working fine up until not long ago, when users seem to either get the following errors:

1) General System Failure (Fixed by a re-installation of the software)
2) Cannot connect to the VPN Service Component (Cannot find much information on this, tried re-installing both the software and Service, but no luck... Ended up fixing by re-imaging the laptop)

So after coming across this site, I downloaded the latest version of Avaya/Nortel VPN Client (thank you for the link).
But when trying to connect, we get the following issue:

- Failed to connect for the following reason: Security Certificate presented by VPN server was not issued by a trusted certificate authority

Can you assist with any of the above?

Many Thanks in Advance!
~ Shane

Hi Shane and welcome!

What version of the client are you using? I'm guessing your using certificate based authentication?

The obvious question... is the certificate for the root CA that issued the certificate for the VPN server on your client?

Good Luck!

Hello Michael,

Thank you for the response.

Unfortunately, due to us being owned by a company in Turkey, we do not have access to the VPN Server (frustrating, I know).

I noticed on the profile setup screen within the client, we use the Predefined Login Service, but I presume this doesnt make much difference?

Im just trying to gather as much information as possible before logged a ticket to our Servicedesk Team in Turkey to help them diagnose the issue alot quicker.

Thanks again, and your site has been a great help!

I would have to guess that they make their own self-signed certificate instead of buying one from a public authority.  But yes, your best way to get it fixed is probably put a help ticket in about the problem.  I know I have had managers who don't want to pay for real certificates and insist we make our own until we start getting swamped by tickets about warning on web pages and such.
