How do I format PCMCIA card for CS1000B rls. 4.5
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:14:31 PM »
Greetings ~

We have a CS1000B rls 4.5 - I need to get a PCMCIA card formatted to retreave the database backup for this system. I have purchased the following:

SanDisk
Ultra
Compact Flash
30MB's
4GB

with the CF to PC Card Adapter

I recall having to format the flash card - just not certain of the process. Would you happen to know the step by step process to format the PCMCIA card?

I've seen some post's indicating this can be done from an Opt11C > pdt - not sure if this is possible with the CS1000B. I don't have access to a Window's 98 machine.

Much Appreciated,

mrclean613

Hmmm... isn't it just an MSDOS filesystem? I believe you can use any laptop with a PCMCIA slot to just format the card. Just insert the card, go to My Computer and right click on the CF card and select Format (it might be under Tools).

Cheers!

I do have a laptop with the PCMCIA port available. However, I was seeing several blog's indicating NOT to use a Window's OS other than Window's 98. Has anything changed from thie regard?

Is there any particular formating that needs to be done?

I believe you are correct that there used to be an issue with the way some of the newer operating systems formatted the PCMCIA card and some of the older hardware but I'm not sure that still applies.

In any case I believe you can use the Nortel/Avaya PCMCIA Card Programmer Version 9.

I've uploaded both the installation archive and the readme to my website.

Let me know how you make out.
Good Luck!

Hey Mike ~

Ok... I downloaded the PCMCIA Card Programmer software to my laptop - followed the instructions - launched the exe file. However, I get an runtime error 6 - Overflow. Not sure why or how to fix this issue

I'm not sure how to be of more help... you might want to try posting over in the Tek-Tips forums where they have a huge following for the legacy Meridian and CS1000.

Good Luck!

Hey Mike ~

Looks like I have purchased the wrong size flash card - I purchased a 4gig SanDisk flash card - I'm hearing this should have been do larger the 64M. We've issued a request with purchasing to order a 64M flash card.

Until next week - I'll provide an update
