SIP connection to 3rd party Internet provider with 1140e
« on: September 26, 2011, 10:40:22 AM »
Hello,

I am currently using a Nortel branded 1140e (mfr# NTYS05) to connect to an internet based SIP provider.  Unfortunately, they like most providers I've found, do not support this particular phone.  I have been able to connect to their service and make and receive phone calls for a number of weeks now.  I think I am down to some finite tweaking of my settings and landing on which firmware to run as I am a SOHO user.

Even though my trial license is about to run out and I believe I will still be able to use basic features.  I would like to use 4.01.15.00.  Everything that I want to use is there.  The only challenge I have not been overcome is keeping my incoming sessions alive.  I can continue to make outbound calls without distortion, digitization or interruption.  Every 12-24 hours however, I have to log in and out of my SIP session from the phone.  Otherwise, I will be on a call or working at my desk and voicemail light comes on as calls are not routing to my phone any longer.  Again, I am able to continue making outbound calls without issue.

On 2.02.21.00, the features seem to be much more limited, but I won't have any licensing issues.  So far, I don't think I'm having the same time out issues as above.  Which I really don't understand?  My biggest challenge seems to be that I can not get the phone to read my users.dat file with the same settings as above?  I think I can customize most settings on the phone itself, but I can not add an NTP server which is probably one of my biggest annoyances.

Here is the users.dat file with a bit of the professionalization taken out.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You should be able to make a standard SIP connection using the regular feature sets. Have you reviewed any of the threads in this forum?

Good Luck!
