1230 died
« on: September 29, 2011, 08:24:30 AM »
Hi there!

Besides some Cisco Ip Phones, I have two nortels. One 1140e and one 1230. (Both SIP-FW)
The 1140e is working perfectly and the 1230 was doing well, too.
But some day, it suddenly died after being plugged off and on again.
When powering on, it says "load Application..." for 1 Minute and then it's dead and the display stays dark.
I am not a nortel expert at all. I can't access the configuration by pressing the soft keys, the reset sequence does not work, but the phone is contacting the dhcp server (tftp32) but does not download the firmware (download mode FORCED) (not even contacting the tftp-server)
I have added the dhcp option 66 in the tftp setting. It that sufficient?

What can I do? Thanks a lot for your help and any idea you might have...

Hi jan and welcome to the forums!

It certainly sounds like you've had a hardware failure, especially if everything was working fine and then it just stopped. I believe you might be able to get into the configuration by striking the four soft keys just below the display when the "Nortel" or "Avaya" text displays on the IP phone. I'm not sure if it displays that after it loads the application or before.

Good Luck!

Hi Michael!

...Thanks!

No, the configuration manu is not available any longer. While the phone was running, I could access it by striking the four soft keys. These days, it is no longer available. The phone does not react to pressing any keys, nor to the the reset sequence. The Nortel / Avaya logo does not appear when booting. It says no more then "load Application" and later nothing else.

I hope I don't have to throw it away...?
