1220 and intercom_paging
« on: December 05, 2011, 04:04:00 PM »
hello. i've got 60 1220 i'd like to use on asterisk. sip firmware is fine, they connect fine too.

does any of you know if i can use the intercom_paging YES setting with asterisk?
cant get it to work, phone ring once and then hangup, no one way speaker audio. i would like to use them in a page group, in class rooms.

is it an avaya-only function or what?

Your the second person to inquire about that feature (or you were that person?)... does Asterisk even support such a feature? I'm not sure myself, I really haven't used Asterisk outside of just playing around with the i2002/i2004 IP phones a few years ago with the chan_unistim driver.

Looks like support for paging or intercom isn't really widespread among SIP handsets. I believe there is an auto-answer feature on the 1100 series IP phones but I'm not sure how that change would impact the basic operation of the handset.

Good Luck!

thanks michael.
asterisk does support paging, and it works great. only, the 11 and 12 series dont seems to use the same method. setting the handset to autoanswer is not a solution for me right now.
i currently have aastra phones along with sip speaker and interphone, on the asterisk. works great for paging and intercom, along with scheduled ringing of wav files ( for end of class bell sound)
i just wanted to convert our 1220 to this system, since the AG2000 isnt supported anymore. cant buy more licences, thanks to nortel being sold to avaya. we had this system for a couple of months and then were told it wasnt supported anymore.

Actually Citrix discontinued the AG2000 and it is a shame as we sold a lot of those boxes.   2 different companies make a solution for this,  Datapulse makes a program called progression that is very powerful but expensive.

There is a Russian company called Softdrom  that actually makes a share wareversion called RFB server that provides many of the functionalities of the AG2000.   If you download the freeware version there is no support whatsoever and it is identical to the licensed version, however the licensed version entitles you to tech support.

I have downloaded and checked for viruses, but have not had a chance to play with in the lab yet.

thanks for your input markr.
i'll check it out, see if i can use that.
i did know about datapulse, which is way too expansive and dont have all the functions we want.

RFB is for the 11xx series, i'll try with my 1220. only difference being the screen, which could cause a problem, since apparently, based on the screenshot, they use fancy little pictures with their apps.
i'll post back after testing.

i can confirm the soft dont work with the 1220. RFBServer use GXAS (G for Graphical), and 12x series use XAS, so its a no-go. wont register with the server at all.
looks like i'll use the 1220 to change old 2004 phase 1 phones.
