11x0E Handsets and CS1000
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:07:37 AM »
Hi

We are currently upgrading from a Option 11, to a CS1000, running 7.5 etc.

We are still waiting for the CS1000 to arrive, but currently have some handsets etc.  We are looking to use DHCP to provision the hardware, and manually enter the TN and Node ID's.

The question I have is that our vendor has advised that the default settings of the phone is that control packets will be marked with DSCP 40, and media with DSCP 46.  However when I look at the phone, both of these values are set to 0.

Once these devices talk to the CS1000, will that advise the phones to use these DSCP markings?

I am using the following to provision the phone...
Nortel-i2004-B,s1ip=192.168.46.74;p1=4100;a1=1;r1=5;s2ip=192.168.45.74;p2=4100;a2=1;r2=5;dhcp=y;lldp=n;vvsource=a;vq=y;vlanf=y;cachedip=y;igarp=y;pcuntag=y;blt=1;menulock=p;menupwd=*864766#;stickiness=y;bt=n;

If I add the following, I get the result I am looking for, but from what I have been told, it shouldnt be required.

mdiff=46;cdiff=40;vcp=6;vmp=6;

Any ideas?

Thanks
David

David -

what kind of the phone? is it WLAN handsets phone? if the IP phones and by the default, IP phones will mark traffic with 802.1p bit set to 6 and the DiffServ value set to EF 46 for Voice traffice and 40 for signalling traffic. therefore, there is no needed to confgi QoS.

Hi unison,

Yes, I believe the CS1K will 'advise' the IP phones to use the correct DSCP markings?  You will then need to make sure these DSCP markings are trusted by the adjacent switch.

CheerZ and good luck

Thanks

The phones are either 1120E or 1140E (both have the same issue).

The switch has been configured to accept DSCP markings from the devices (and has been tested using a linksys phone).  My concern was the admin menu on the phone showed that both DSCP settings were set to 0 - which didnt seem right.

I guess I wait for the CS1K, and if that doesnt advise the phone, I can always fall back to the DHCP options.

Lastly, does anyone have any comments around the DHCP settings I have set - this appears to be beyond our vendor, so it has all been obtained from forums/blogs etc - any other values I should have in there etc?

dhcp=y; - Turn on dhcp
lldp=n; - Turn off lldp
vvsource=a; - Voice vlan provided by DHCP
vq=y; - Voice vlan is tagged
vlanf=y; - Enable VLAN filter on voice stream
cachedip=y; - cache the ip if dhcp isnt avaliable post reboot
igarp=y; - Ignore GARP
pcuntag=y; - PC interface is untagged
blt=1; - Backlight off after 1 minute
menulock=p; - Partical Menu Lock
menupwd=*864766#; - Change default admin password
stickiness=y; - keep these settings if no settings are provided on next reboot?
bt=n; - turn off bluetooth

Thanks
David

You'll see that once the IP phone connects to the CS1000 it will start using the proper DSCP values... you just need to make sure that your switch doesn't strip them out.

Good Luck!

All up and running...

Does anyone know if you can get rid of the Virtual button from the 'idle' screen of the phone?  We dont use the Virtual features...

Thanks
David

That's probably a feature on the TN... you might want to speak with your PBX programmer.

Hi

In your example value mdiff=46;cdiff=40 are not correct.  mdiff & cdiff must be 184 & 160 because it ToS decimal value and not DSCP.
Good luck !

At home and can't remember which one does it but it is either CLS VOLD or CLS VOUD (or both).

Confirmed CLS VOLD turns off the Virtual key on the 1100 sets.
