Some information has already appeared on //partner.avaya.com:

Avaya Virtual Services Platform 7000 provides a cost-effective 10 Gigabit Ethernet fan-out capability for existing core switch deployments and also has application in the Campus distribution layer, delivering flexible connectivity and consolidation options.

Product Details
Addressing the pressing need for flexible, high-speed Ethernet connectivity, Avaya Virtual Services Platform 7000 offers a high-performance switch targeted at the data center top-of-rack.

In addition to the versatility afforded by the future-ready Media Dependent Adapter slot and high-speed Fabric Interconnect sockets, the Virtual Services Platform 7000 (VSP 7000) features a hardened physical architecture of dual, hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies and fan trays. Together, these features help ensure that the VSP 7000 is an important addition to a network manager’s toolkit for creating always-on high-performance solutions.

and this:

Virtual Service Platform 7024XLS
The VSP 7024XLS, first of the VSP 7000 Series models to be introduced, features 24 fixed 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet ports using the SFP+ socket for pluggable transceivers. It also offers a Media Dependant Adapter slot, giving the product immense flexibility for future expansion.

Hot-Swappable AC and DC Power Supplies
An important contributing factor to the VSP 7000’s value proposition is its resiliency and reliability; hence dual, hot-swappable and field-replaceable power supplies available in either AC or DC format. These also feature directional air-flow, actively contributing to the cooling paradigm.

Hot-Swappable Fan Trays
The VSP 7000 features dual, hot-swappable and field-replaceable Fan Trays that are also available in either front-to-back or back-to-front directional air-flow format.

Multi-Terabit Fabric Interconnect
This key differentiator delivers a remarkable capacity to expedite traffic flows between Servers located in the same aisle, and not just in the same rack. This ensures that local traffic is switched locally onto high-speed interconnects, improving application performance.

Media Dependent Adapter
The MDA slot which gives the product immense flexibility for supporting additional high-speed connectivity options such as additional 10Gbps ports (SFP+ sockets and 10GBASE-T via RJ45), 40Gbps and 100Gbps Ethernet, and Fibre Channel (FC) connectivity.

Hi,

Sounds like a great 'top of the rack' switch with no single point of failure and all the good stuff from existing Nortel/Avaya switches and new technology like SPB, which is perfect for the data centre I.e. No STP and ECMP?

I wonder if SPB will ever come to the ERS 4500/5000 switches?

Hi,

Compared with suppoting SMLT on VSP9K, how about VSP7K?  VSP7K focus on SPB/ IP VPN-LITE  feature only.
Like MERS8K, it is preferd to support VSP feature on ERS4K/5K.

Very interesting new product from Avaya.
This will close the 10Gbit gab in the Avaya Switch portfolio.
At the moment Avaya has only the 5632FD that has 8 10Gbit Ports to offer.

Is anything about the release date public ?

It´s always the network...

The Avaya guys i have spoken to said that there will be no SPBM on 4500s or 5500s.  SPBM will come to the VSP7000s, but not from day one.

I do not understand who would choose such solutions for their data centers? In Russia people are choosing between HP, Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, Force10... No one considers as serious Avaya solutions. 10(!) realese with many * footnotes and blah-blah features. Various VENA and VSP9K promo have no success with us...

@alexbat
I think AVAYA has advantages and disadvantages as every other vendor on the market.
In my experince all vendors have * fotnotes, bugs, fetures that are promised and not deliverd.

The VSP products addresses surley the datacanetrs needs, we will see how successfull Avaya will be with that products in the furture.
It´s always the network...
