URGENT HELP Nortel Baystack 5520-48T-PWR
« on: November 21, 2011, 01:13:54 PM »
Help, Is there a way to reset a Nortel Baystack 5520-48T-PWR without the use of a console cable?

My collegue decided to configure the switch and set IP address access to a certain range. He then changed the IP address of the switch and rebooted. We then lost all access to the switch.

We do not have a console cable.

I was told that there was a method of pulling and then repowering whilst holding down the button.

We are desperate.

Thanks

Joe

Hi joeking,

If you have two Cisco console cables lying around you can connect the cables together with an RJ45 'balun', which will then allow you to access the console?

CheerZ and good luck

Hi joeking,

You realize all you need is a straight-thru modem cable... or as Flintstone pointed out just put two Cisco (null) cables together to make a straight-thru cable.

In you haven't disabled the UI button you can set the IP address of the switch/stack using that button (although I've never tried it myself).

Also if you know what IP address your colleague used you can just give your laptop/desktop an IP address in the same network (make sure you are connected to a port in the VLAN that was configured as the management VLAN), and you should be able to communicate with it.

Good Luck!

Hi joeking,

as Michael mentioned the Cosole cable is a standard serial RS232 straight-thru modem cable.
So if you find any old modem you can use the cable from it.
At ebay you can buy it for a few € / $.

Good Luck
Itīs always the network...
