Thanks Mike,

I will try out your script when its posted here. Yep I clued into the vtp*  was CISCO only. Can you give me any advice on how/where to find these mibs and how where to translate a MIB num  like .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.1 into a description

We currently have an open case (for months now) with Nortel regarding the mac-address table
on Nortel 425 switches (they have full access to a few stacks).

After a reboot of the switch stacks, these show correctly all port <-> mac bindings.
After X days (probably somewhere between 28 and 40 days) for a lot of ports,
the switch no longer returns a mac-address despite the fact that they have approriate in/out traffic.

Running firmware 3.6.1 and the latest (but unfortunately ancient) firmware, 3.6.3

So beware of this if you run a couple of these switches in your network :)

For something out of left field there is a Cacti plugin called MacTrack which does this while providing a simple web interface for it.
