sysRtcTime vs sysNtpTime on ERS 5xxx's
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:31:37 PM »
We recently noticed that the RTC was different from the NTP on our 5632's. (Show System)

        sysNtpTime:           2012-02-02 09:58:06 GMT+10:00
        sysRtcTime:           Thursday 2101/09/28 00:51:31

This appears on our 5632's and our 5530's.
We then looked into it and found the following command:
clock sync-rtc-with-sntp enable

We were wondering why this would not be enabled by default.

Has anyone else come across this, or found any issues with both clocks being out of sync?

Thanks

With the release of 6.x software I believe the software now has the ability to set the on-board RTC (real time clock). As you mentioned you can sync it with the clock that is sync'd to the NTP source.

Real time clock configuration
In addition to SNTP time configuration, a real-time clock (RTC) is available to provide the switch with time information. This RTC provides the switch information in the instance that SNTP time is not available.

I believe the ERS 4000s series also has this feature as of 5.4.x software.

Cheers!

Here's where the 5520's differ from the 5530 and 5632's .
On 6.2.4.011 it looks like the command is
On a 5520: clock source sntp
On a 5530: clock sync-rtc-with-sntp

I'm not sure if the 5520's maintain clock sync once set.
I will have a play in the next few days.
