stacking with 4524GT switch
« on: October 19, 2011, 04:07:56 AM »
Hi,

Could anyone help me with the below:

1. Is there any precaution to take when adding a new switch( same model) to an existing stack of 2.
(ie, will there be any downtime when i remove the stack cables to re arrange the stack)

2. What about the configuration? Will i have to configure the new switch in the stack or will it copy the configuration from the stack?

Hi moosame and welcome to the forum,

I recently just added a new ERS4500 to a stack of 2 and had no downtime etc.  Mind you I did add the new stack and associated cables out of business hours.

The stack of 2 upgraded the new ERS4500 to the latest version of firmware and the configuration of the new ERS4500 was the default configuration I.e. Vlan 1 on all ports.

CheerZ and good luck

Hi moosame and welcome!

As @Flintstone mentions you should have no issues as long as your existing configuration is correctly wired, etc. You should (if possible) verify that the switch is running the same firmware/boot code and software/agent code as the stack your are about to connect it to. If it's not then you should either upgrade or downgrade to match the stack.

Good Luck!
