Problems with ERS 4500 Series
« on: December 13, 2011, 06:47:09 AM »
Hello,

i have a customer (bank) with one head office and some subsidiaries. In each subsidiaries is one 4548GT-PWR Switch with Software 5.3.2. Connected is an Avaya CM on the head office and G450 on the subsidiaries which connects all IP Phones to the head office CM.

After a power outage, the switches loose there config (but only a little bit). The ip address is the same after a power outage, but the ADAC config is lost.

The main problem actually is, if i connect a computer behind an ip phone, the computer get a ip address form the gateway (voice vlan) not from the data vlan and the dhcp server from the bank.

in adac is tagged frames configured. i cant do an update to the new version 5.5.0 or 5.4.1 or 5.4.2 because after an update to the versions, the phones cant connect to the ACM on the head office, because ADAC doesnt work fine. the phones get the voice vlans, but after a call with the firewall specialist from the bank, they told me, the phones try to get an ip address in the data vlan. With version 5.3.2 there isnt that problem.

Any one an idea?

Can you explain in more detail how the "ADAC config is lost."?

I suspect you aren't following the proper steps to enable ADAC. Are you making VLAN changes after enabling ADAC at the port level? If you are then that's your issue. You can either upgrade to the latest release of software (not sure if it's addressed for the ERS 4500 but I know it's been addressed for ERS 5000). Or you need to disabled ADAC before making any VLAN changes and then re-enable after the changes are complete.

Do you have autosave disabled?

4548GT-PWR#show autosave
Auto Save:  Enabled

If you do you need to manually save the configuration with;

4548GT-PWR#copy config nvram

Cheers!

Well I would force a save and then intentionally reset the switch. If the configuration doesn't hold then I would probably look to RMA the switch. It might be useful to review the release notes just incase it's a software bug.

Hi Michael,

now i got more information from my customer.. probably they reconfig the switch??

here is the ADAC Config like all switches on subsidieres are configured:

adac call-server-port 43

adac voice-vlan 37
adac op-mode tagged-frames

adac mac-range-table low-end 00.1b.4f.00.00.00 high-end 00.1b.4f.ff.ff.ff

interface Fastethernet 1-42,44,46

adac tagged-frames-tagging untag-pvid-only enable

lldp tx-tlv local-mgmt-addr port-desc sys-cap sys-desc sys-name
lldp status txAndRx config-notification
lldp tx-tlv med extendedPSE med-capabilities network-policy

exit

adac enable

vlan ports 43 tagging untagpvidOnly
vlan members add 37 43

vlan members remove 1 43
Uplink port manuell konfigurieren: adac uplink-port 48

the main problem ist, that they configure vlan on ports who adac allready enabled????

Can u tell me more ?

Some of the command s you've provided above don't look right to me. You should probably re-read some of the links I've provided above.

Also the command "adac uplink-port #" adds the voice VLAN to the uplink port so there's no need for the command "vlan members add 37 43".

Good Luck!

Hi Michael,

thanks, i know there is a failure.. and i dont know why my customer configure the switches like this config.

they define with adac the call server port: adac call-server-port 43

they enable adac

and then they configure the call server port manually...
vlan ports 43 tagging untagpvidOnly
vlan members add 37 43
vlan members remove 1 43

i would recommended, i configure the switch with ADAC and LLDP Detection und test it.

just for information. i got the problem.

the loosing config was the vlan members configuration after adac was enabled. so, the same issue that u have allready noticed Michael.

and why the lldp config doesnt worked after an switch update was that the static lldp med-network-policies are not overwrite after you configured adac and enabled it.

first u must delete/disable the static lldp med-network-policies with no lldp med-network-policies. after that u can configure adac and enable it, so the avaya phones get the right 802.1q Q-Tag and the right vlan id.
