problems with COM 2.3 and GBIC data
« on: October 21, 2011, 07:44:56 AM »
Hello everybody,

I have some trouble with Com 2.3. I an't see the GBic data of our switches.
We have ES470, ERS45xx and ERS55xx switches but no of them shows GBic data
after a scan with File Inventory Scanner. The GBic tab is also missing.
Telnet is enabled. My Version of COM is the latest Version: 2.3, Revision 31
Build date: 20110621.080238
The Guys of Avaya told me that it should work with this Version. Has Anybody
the same problem or an idea to fix it ?

Best regards

Frank

Hi Frankbr and welcome to the Forum,

it looks like that the COM inventory Manager dosnīt have the GBIC information.
On my COM 2.3 installation the GBIC tab is also missing.  If I save the inventory to text file there is also no GBIC information.

Cheers

Hi Dominik,

thank you for answering. It seems to be a littlebit strange... :-\

The inventory Manager should have the Gbic Information. I saw the tab on a
screenshot of the 2.3 installation which was sent to me by my presales engineer of avaya.
I'm not sure but I could swear I had have the information until the version of 2.2.
Did you checked the checkedbox for collect gbic data at the preference tab in the
inventory manager ? Otherwise it won't collect gbic data.
I put a sniffer on the port of the COM Server and i could see, that there is telnet traffic
asking for gbic information.
Which OS do you running for the COM ?

Cheers

Frank

I tested with COM on Windows Server 2003 and RHEL 5.2. Both didnīt show the GBIC information.
I have checked the collect GBIC data, but dosnīt have a device where telenet is enabled.

Do you have the switch passwords for telnet configured in the Device Credentials ?

The COM inventory manager was based on the code of the old ESM inventory manager. With ESM it was also a littlebit strange.
Only on some device types the ESM was able to collect the GBIC data.

I will install the beta of COM 2.3.1 and check it for you next week.

Cheers

Hi Dominik,

My COM Installation is on Windows Server 2003 and the passwords in the Device Credentials
are already configured.
I tried it without any passwords in a testlab enviroment but with the same result.
I agree with you. In the ESM it was the same strange behaviour , but I use it for years and on my
devices ( ES470, ERS55xx ) it was able to collect and show the information.
I found an saved Inventory File of ESM 6.2 and all of teh GBic Information was shown.

Thank you for testing the 3.2.1 !  I'm very curios.

Cheers
