Please help decipher ERS552048TPWR event
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:54:20 AM »
I wonder if someone can help explain what this event might indicate.

Log: Dec 31 16:06:23 KTLK-552048TPWRx1-03 :Sw Exception: Task tMCMgr, Type Data Access, PC 0x00e0cac0, SP 0x04bb4f40

It seems like the even occured during bootup as the date/time is incorrect and I was alerted to this event when the switch had a very short uptime.

The switch is running FW 6.0.0.6 and SW 6.1.2.028
This is a standalone switch not a member of a stack. There are no fiber modules installed, only copper interfaces being used.

Everything appears to be operating fine now, so I'm just curious to know what this event means in case I am alerted to any problems.
Thanks

I had a quick look through the logs reference document and this is what it had to say about it:

Code: [Select]
A task caused an exception
and is suspended. The
exception information is
logged and can be accessed
through the CLI.

Code: [Select]
The Exception information
contains the problem task, the
exception type, the register
values, the exception stack
trace and memory of the
related DRAM area. With this
information, you can find out
the cause of the exception.
(The most common method is
to follow the stack trace).

So all we seem to get out of this is that the task named "tMCMgr" has caused an exception. I guess Avaya tech support should be able to tell you more with this information...

I also quickly went through the later SW releases but none of them mentioned anything in regard to "tMCMgr" although strangely enough the release notes of the SW you're currently running mentions an issue with "tMCMgr" in the "resolved problems" section:

Quote
Data exception error in "tMCMgr" task when executing the “show ip mroute” command (Q02070133).
