Nortel ERS 8600 Memory Error
« on: December 06, 2011, 04:14:32 PM »
Hi everybody,

I have a memory issue with an ERS 8600. I get this error and I can't find any info to troubleshoot the problem:

CPU6 [12/06/11 11:25:53] HW WARNING Fab Memory full slot 5 Status 0x70002 Cnt 17653

Do you know what this error means and if there's a document with information about it?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

I believe this could be related to an error that was fixed in code v5.1.5.0 .  What version of code are you running?

"A scenario was been identified where repeated Packet Memory Refresh events occurring on a specific card could lead to a system outage due exhaustion of the switch fabric memory (reported as “Fab Memory Full” errors). Diagnostic improvements have now been added to avoid the system outage which will take the card offline if 5 Packet Memory Refresh events are encountered within a 50 second window or 15 encountered within a 210 second window. (Wi00731139)."

Hi Zackar and welcome to the forums!

I would agree with @Telair, it looks like a bug that was resolved in 5.1.5.0 software.

There is a reference to the alarm in the VSP log reference.

Good Luck!

Hi Telair,

I'm using 4.1.0.0 version and until last Monday the network was working correctly. Since last Monday to yesterday we had two or three times the same error and the network stopped working.

I understand that is a bug and an upgrade is needed to fix the issue. Isn't it?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe you are due for an emergency upgrade in order to fix this error.  Unfortunately you are also looking at jumping from v4 to v5 code to do it, so read those release notes carefully for hardware support requirements and restrictions.  The exact v5.1.5.0 software was removed due to having a nasty bug in it, so you should probably be looking at jumping to v5.1.5.1, v5.1.6.0 or maybe the latest v5.1.7.0 release.

We run 5.1.7 code since 2 weeks and it looks quit stable, in fact this will be the last release in the 5.1x releases
code I would consider an update to 5.1.7.

Cheers
It´s always the network...
