Nortel Baystack 5520-48T-PWR
« on: November 21, 2011, 08:58:03 AM »
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can help me.

I purchased a Nortel Baystack 5520-48T-PWR.

The firmware version is 4.1.0.8

The software version is v4.1.0.04

I am desperate to update both of these.

I have registered for at the Avaya site and was not able to get the updates. I called Avaya in the UK and left a few messages but no one responds to my messages. I have contacted Avaya in the USA and some sales guy tried to make me take out a service contract with them. I told them that I am a small company with only one Nortel Baystack 5520-48T-PWR and that I only needed to upgrade the firmware and software and was very unlikely to buy any further products and he just put the phone down on me without saying another word. I was on the phone to the USA for more than 30 minutes and it cost me a small fortune.

I am going around in circles.

Is there anyone that can help me and put me i the right direction? I will be most appreciative.

Thanks

Hi joeking and welcome to the forum,

Unfortunately you do need a software service contract to be able to get the latest firmware and fixes etc.  I think for our ERS5500 switches we pay something in the region of £200/300 per switch per year?

CheerZ and good luck

Just like Flintstone said, in order to acquire software updates you will need to have a software support contract, this will entitle you to software as well as technical support. This is industry standard for any network equipment.

Hi Flintstone,

Thank you for your speedy response. If only Avaya would answer my calls and emails in such a rapid manner then I would be able to get this resolved.

My problem is compounded by the fact that I need to get my switch into production this evening. I have a small window of opertunity and need to replace a potentially suspect CISCO.

We are a small company and not used to dealing with these heavy weights.

I will continue my research.

Regards

Joe
