Nortel 4548GT - Verification Code Fails!

Hi all, I'm new to the forum.

I have a 4548GT and I updated the software image before upgrading the diagnostic file! School boy error I know now!

In its working state it had:
FW 5.0.1.0
SW v5.0.1.000

I then installed image 5400_540009s.img (SW v5.4.0.009) and after the reboot it says Agent Verification Code Fails!

I believe that I have to install the agent code that will work with FW 5.0.1.0 but I do not have this image file.  I assume it would be 4500_501000.img but I can not obtain this anywhere online. I have another 4548 which has FW 5.0.1.0 & SW v5.0.1.000.

Is there a way to extract the image file from the nvram on the spare 4548 I have? Does anyone know of an archive of old Nortel images? If not does anyone know how I can fix my corrupt switch?

Hi martynw and welcome to the forum,

I believe what you require is the diagnostic file which is a '*.bin file.  According to the release notes for your version of software you need '4500_5303_diag.bin'.  You should be able to download from Avaya if you have a support contract.

I have 4500_5303_diag.bin.  The problem is that this should have been installed first before the image. 
Due to me installing the image file first it has corrupt the switch. 

The switch will not allow me to install 4500_5303_diag.bin

Thanks.  I already came across that blog.

The screen shot in the blog is the position I am in.  To load the agent file an img file is required.

The img file that I want is an old image file which relates to my FW version.

Avaya do not make old images available to download and I need 4500_501000.img.

Does anyone know of a source where I can get old images from?
Or does anyone know if an image can be downloaded from the nvram from a working switch?

I would give Avaya support a call and they should be able to provide the image you require.  As long as you have a support contract?

I don't believe an image can be downloaded from another switch.  I know Cisco support this but Avaya don't?

Unfortunately no one knows if we have support with Avaya.  We were a Nortel customer though.
Called Avaya but they wont provide support without site id etc!

Annoying that the image cant be downloaded from another switch as that would probably solve my issue!

The avaya needs to have site ID or SOLD ID. w/o these won't HELPPPPPPPPP

also there were a lot people think the software can be downloaded from switch BUT it won't works Avaya switch...

it looks like you have no choice here...

 this problems happen, don't worry. For Download the IMG of a SW you need stay direct connected for this TFTP works.
 I believe that it will help you.

I believe you can apply the old boot/firmware code via the serial console and the menu... that should get you back to where you started.

Unfortunately Avaya switches do not support Xmodem so you cannot copy files via the serial port like Cisco.  You also can only download Agent code/Image/Software and not the Firmware/Diagnostics/Boot code. 

Your only option is to get a copy of an earlier software version and download it via TFTP using to boot menu.

There was a change in the ERS4500 diagnostics to support the larger agent code.  This happened in version 5.2 so you just need to get a software version between 5.0 and 5.2, it does not have to be the same as you previously had.

Did you try to break the boot and use the Diagnostics tool and a local TFTP server to download the Diags.bin?

You cannot download Diagnostic/Firmware via the Diagnostic menu.

I had done it on a 5520, so I assumed it was the same for a 4500.
The other option is to backup the config, down-grade the code via Diagnostic mode, update the Diags and Firmware, and then re-apply the config.

It really depends how remote the switch is.
