I have a 4548gt switch that I had to reload the agent on after upgrading the firmware of the stack. This switch didn't take the upgrade so I loaded locally using the download agent process.

Upon rebooting the switch it starts to boot normally but them stops after listing the MAC address. Restarting it does not change this condition.

Anyone have any ideas how to reset the switch back to it's factory settings besides using the Ctrl-c option when it starts to boot because that doesn't seem to work on this condition.

thanks

KT,

Unfortunately the boot up process does not get to the command prompt. The cursor stops after the MAC address is display and does not advance beyond that point.

It looks like I need another way of forcing a reset of the switch is that's possible.

Thanks
Joel

Since it doesn't boot all the way up and I can't get to a command prompt, there's no way to reload/update the image/firmware.

It looks like this may need to go back to Avaya for repair unless there is anther way to reset the unit.

Thanks for the ideas.

I'm having a problem getting in touch with Nortel/Avaya to get these switches replaced under their warranty. Their 800 number doesn't connect with anyone and just sends you around in circles.

I've been told that we need to go through a vendor or reseller which dioesn't make sense.

Is that true?

If you have a support contract with Avaya, call them about it to get an RMA going.  If you do not have a service contract directly with Avaya, but with a channel partner.  Then contact the channel partner for support to open a case with Avaya.  If you have no service contact, all ERS routing switches are covered by a lifetime warranty from Avaya.  See the document below for the description on how it works and how to start the RMA process.

Thanks Telair.  I review the doc you referenced and hopefully get them replaced from there.

Thanks again.

Just to clarify...

If you have no service contact, all ERS Stackable (ERS 2500, 4000, 5000 & VSP 7000) are covered by a lifetime warranty from Avaya.

Your diag firmware may be pooched.  During bootup do a CTRL+C.  That will get you into the pre-loader (not the BIOS).  From there you can Z-Modem the firmware back onto your switch.  If you are in BIOS, that may or may not work.  There is a great doc on the Avaya web site that will show you how to do this, just search for Z-modem & your switch (ie. 4500).

Cheers, Uncle John.

Hi Uncle John,

I've looked for the Avaya doc on Z-modeming the image onto the box, but am unable find it... Could you perhaps post a link to it?

Many thanks.
