Jumbo frames across subnets
« on: May 21, 2010, 09:48:39 AM »
I already jumbo frames passing correctly within the same subnet but I'm looking to move a cluster into isolation and within the cluster there is a non-clustered interface which jumbo frames is currently enabled but when testing jumbo frames when crossing subnets it doesn't appear to work. The path goes as follows 5510-24T-->8600(8616SXE)-->5520-48T with jumbo frames enabled currently all the way through. Any ideas?

I believe it was you in this post that suggested the 8616SX only supports fame sizes up to 1920?

Are you saying that the same setup below works properly if the source and destination are in the same VLAN, but it doesn't work properly if the source and destination are in different VLANs and the 8600 must routing the packet as opposed to just switching it?

I'd be suspect of the hardware... what version of software are you running on the 8600?

I'm assuming you have upgraded the 5500 series switches to 6.0/6.1? I can't remember which version of software is required for Jumbo Frame support right now.

Cheers!

The card you are referring to is an 8608SXE and not the 8616SX which did have the problem. The 8600 is running release 5.0.0.1 and the 5500's are running release 6.1 with jumbo frames enabled.

Everything works fine if the source and destination are in the same vlan. The 8600 in question is performing the routing between the two vlans.
