Disable Multicast traffic on a 5520
« on: May 24, 2010, 03:48:39 PM »
All,

We recently upgraded our 5500 infrastructure to 6.1.2. In doing so we accidentally removed a multicast configuration that prevented all ports from receiving multicast traffic.

I'm sure this is a small thing, but could someone let me know how to disable multicast traffic on a 5520?

Thanks!

-Mike

I know you can disable Unknown Multicast. If you go to DM and then to VLAN - VLAN's - Unknown Multicast Filtering and enable it, you will stop unknown multicast.

I asked our reseller and this is the answer that I received:

In JDM > VLAN > Snoop > Specific VLAN > Enable > "True"

I was trying to find this setting through the Multicast and IGMP settings. Sometimes I like the JDM, but other times the placement of certain items is extremely problematic.

@bwilliams2, you're right, there's also the tab for "Unknown Multicast Filtering" that can be found under the VLAN selection.

Thanks!

Right...IGMP does not disable multicast from reaching the switch, rather it enables the switch to listen to IGMP conversations and put the switch ports into a list so only a port requesting the multicast will receive the multicast.
