« on: August 18, 2011, 03:47:19 AM »
Dear All,

I had try to install COM version 2.2 on server that run 2008 standard R2 and 2003 standard. Before setup COM I had run preinstallation script and It's seem every requirement was pass but when I finished install COM and then try to start to webpage It's error message always occur "Internal configuration error. The Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) servername on this machine is invalid."

please help me by suggest way to fix this issue.

Verify that the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the machine meets one of the
following requirements:

- Avaya recommends that you define a FQDN in the hosts file. On windows, the default
location of hosts file is in the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. COM
uses the FQDN from the hosts file, so that if the hostname of the server is changed,
COM is not affected.
- When you use a new hostname to start COM, you are redirected to a page containing
the old FQDN. When you define the FQDN in the hosts file, you must associate the
hostname with the IP address. The format is <ip address><fqdn><name>.
For example, define the FQDN as follows:
192.167.140.27 SIBERIA.INNLAB.Avaya.com COM2
After you install COM, do not modify the FQDN in the hosts file; a change can cause
COM to stop working.

if it was setup correctly, you can do an nslookup on the server ip address, that will give you the fqdn. Also, you can check the preinstall log as it will have the fqdn listed in it as well.

Hi radeon,

try a FDQN that has at least 8 digits before the .

Example:

abcdefgh.avaya.com

Good Luck

The easiest way is to edit the HOST file like trevans stated. You do not have to join the domain, just simply open the HOST File add a FQDN and the device will look at its host file prior to trying to resolve with a DNS Server.

If you have correctly configured the FQDN you should be able to ping from the command prompt of the server to the FQDN. Also you must use a valid top level domain (i.e. com, org, or loc)
