Avaya 5500 POE weird issue with a new stack
« on: January 04, 2012, 07:18:22 PM »
We are having a weird issue with a new stack we just installed back in November.
All the phones and computers connected, worked fine till 11:30 yesterday then every 25 min or so the computers attached to the phones get disconnected for different groups of 10-20 users on different switches
The computers maintain a link to the switches
The ip address remains correct but no traffic is passed on a bunch of different ports
Unplug the phone and reset the link and boom they start working for about another 1/2 hour.
I rebooted the stack tonight afterhours so we will see what happens tomorrow

You've left out a lot of information...

What version of software are you running?

Do you have IP phones in any other switch/stack that are working without issue?

I thought the computers were connected to the IP phones... is that not the case?

What is the traffic flow on the uplinks/downlinks of the stack?
Do you have a loop in the network somewhere?
Do you have Spanning Tree enabled on all the edge ports?

Good Luck!

The switches are at this firmware and software version
Ethernet Routing Switch 5520-48T-PWR HW:37 FW:6.0.0.10 SW:v6.2.0.008 BN:08 (c) Avaya Networks.
The computers are connected to the phones
The voice vlan is working the data vlan seems to be having issues.
The up links and down links are showing healthy
I went on site and found 2 issues where the cables were bad at the users end phone
Replaced hopefully hats all it is
Thanks for the help

Hopefully that was your problem... I know a number of us have seen issues with 6.2.0 software so you might want to keep that in the back of your mind. I'm currently testing 6.2.4 software in my lab and I'll probably roll that out in the coming months.

Cheers!
