8600 ERS Upgrade
« on: December 07, 2011, 08:50:33 AM »
I'd like some advice.
We have a 2 system 8600 core with an IST link running v3.5.3.0.
We plan to upgrade to v5.1.1.1. We currently only have E modules. We plan on installing R modules
and upgrading the cpu to 8692SF w supermezz (currently 8691SF).
To reduce down time, we were considering installing v5.1.1.1 on the new 8692s along with our config.
We have 2 spare systems (with 8691 CPUs) where we can upgrade to v4 and then to v5 and then take that config file and run it on the new CPUs. From there we would power down the switches, swap the CPUs
and power the system back up. (We know that power supplies will need replacing also).
Does this sound doable? Any gotchas? Suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack,

Your basic approach should work fine so long as your "temporary" switches (w 8691SF) have the exact same cards/modules as your production cards. If the don't the moment you do a save config the switch will remove the configuration from the config.cfg file.

Good Luck!
