CPU5 [10/19/11 13:52:30] SNMP INFO Link Down(2/10) due to oper  status change
CPU5 [10/19/11 13:52:30] SNMP INFO Port 2/10 is an access port
CPU5 [10/19/11 13:56:56] SNMP INFO Link Up(2/10)
CPU5 [10/19/11 13:56:56] SNMP INFO Port 2/10 is an access port

Hi Avinash Jha and welcome to the forums!

In general link up and link down events are triggered when the link is lost at a switch port.

You'll noticed from the logs that link was lost on port 8/10 for about 4 minutes and 26 seconds. What's connected to this switch port? This might be a user rebooting a PC or a printer or some other device.

The trace you provided only covered a period of 2 seconds (yes those traces produce a lot of information) however, nothing looks out of the ordinary to me when I look at it.

Cheers!

Hi Michael,

Thanx for your quick response.

The CPU is high when the "Spectrum" management station is pooling the switch.
The CPU is high when the pooling is done.
 What might be the cause?
Can we have any action plan for this issue.

Hi Avinash Jha,

Generally, SNMP polling shouldn't cause high CPU?  Have you tried 'sniffing' the SNMP polling of your device in case 'Spectrum' is doing something else it should not?  Maybe it is doing something like MIB walking?

The CPU is high when the "Spectrum" management station is pooling the switch.
The CPU is high when the pooling is done.
 What might be the cause?

This is fairly normal, if I poll the MAC/FDB table from my ERS 8600 (which has about 5,000+ entries) it takes about 45 seconds to get the entire table and during that time the CPU utilization reaches around 90%...

What are you referring to as high?

Why not attach the output of multiple show sys perf while you are polling the switch. Attaching trace output isn't really that helpful, nor do I really have the time to dig through it.

Good Luck!

Hi

Thanks for your support.
It was my configuration issue which was creating a loop.
Can you please tel me that while accessing the switch through ESM why it gets slow?
Is it a normal situation or should i use some other application to access?

Regards
Ronit

I'm happy we were able to help you....

Are you referring to Enterprise Device Manager (EDM) the replacement for Java Device Manager (JDM)?

I believe Enterprise Switch Manager (ESM) just launches a copy of JDM so it shouldn't really be slow. Have a go with EDM and you'll find out what slow is all about.

Cheers!
