8600 - Base CPU took an exception
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:16:49 PM »
When working on our 8600 that is running 4.1.1.0, I have experienced Exception errors whenever doing commands such as Show log file tail or Show tech.  Once command is submitted and information begins to output on screen, the exception occurs: "Base CPU took an exception"
When this occurs, I will loose console access and I'm not able to regain access until 8600 is rebooted.  I am planning to upgrade software to version 5.1.3, but unsure if I should proceed.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks.

I vaguely remember this being a bug although I can't be 100% sure.

Are you sure that your PCMCIA card isn't faulty? If you look at the directory contents of the PCMCIA card you'll find files that end in either .005 or .006, these are the log files. You can use the more command to view the contents or you can retrieve them with an FTP client (assuming you have FTP enabled).

I would strongly recommend you review all release notes between 4.1.1 and 4.1.8.3. You might want to consider 4.1.8.3 software, since it doesn't have all the hardware requirements of the 5.x software.

Good Luck!
