8300 v4.2 base License problem
« on: September 12, 2011, 10:37:22 PM »
hello

if you have an ers8300 v4.2 that only requires a base License. Does the base lic file still need to be present on the system?  or will the switch function without the file.

make a long story short. we have a site that can't seem to find or recreate their base license.  But they only ever bought the base Lic and only need the base features.  If we can live with the error messages you get when you boot the switch,  will the switch operate all the same?

thanks

P

Hi,
Not sure but in my opinion there is no base license file. During boot up process there may be an error license file missing but it regards advanced and premium license. It only warns You that some  features may be unavailable. The same story is with ers 8600. On 8600 I saw this message several time without any impact.

Cheers,
Artur

I believe when you upgrade an ERS 8300 to v4.x and and ERS 8600 to v5.x they automatically enable a temporary advanced/premium license for 90 days. The switch will then start to count down and will ultimately start to "bark" at you warning you of the impending expiration of the temporary eval license. Once you reboot the switch after the eval period has expired it shouldn't complain again.

Good Luck!

The base license is the version of image that you install on the switch.  You do not have to go to www.avayadatalicencing.com to register/download a "base" license, only the Advanced & Premium licenses require that.  So just install the P83a____.img file and boot with it and you are good to go.
