56xx upgrade to diag code v6.0.0.14 highly recommended
« on: November 17, 2011, 05:01:36 PM »
This summer I purchased a 5698TFD-PWR with advanced routing code to replace an 8600 in a location that is no longer a data center so I can reallocate the latter to another data center.  Up to this time I have held off on installing the switch because I while testing (in the process upgrading to 6.2.3 code from the 6.2.0 it shipped with), I was seeing the switch become unresponsive through both CLI and telnet, appear to lock up, etc.  (also other higher priority projects came along, too, preventing more testing and corresponding opening an Avaya ticket).   A few weeks ago I found the following product correction notice involving diag code v6.0.0.13 and that there would be a new diag code version v6.0.0.14 issued.

https://support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100148753

That new diag code has been available for a few weeks on the Avaya support site.  Ironically I was not seeing the POST test failures documented, but I will say it has definitely fixed the stability issues of my 5698TFD-PWR switch.

I have a few 5520 switches purchased in August that I have 6.2.3 image with the aforementioned v6.0.0.13 diag code, but have not had issues; this jibes with the PCN saying this issue only affects 5600 units.

While the issues supposedly doesn't impact the ERS 5500 series switches, I would recommend you implement 6.0.0.14 firmware during your normal upgrade schedule - if for now other reason to just standardize your software releases.

Updated: mistakenly referred to 6.0.0.13 instead of 6.0.0.14

hI telecom116,

the firmware bug in version 6.0.0.13 can brick your ERS5000 after a reboot.
In fact of that it is a good idea to update all your switches to 6.0.0.14.

If you have no dwontime for your switches use the no reset option for the update, so your switch will
have the new firmware the next time you boot it.

Cheers

Itīs always the network...
