5520 Switch Incorrect Temperature Report
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:22:52 PM »
Hi all,

Just finished upgrading all of my closet switch/stack of 5500 to 6.2.1.003.  Love the new code which I can use SolarWinds to send e-mail when the switch temperature goes up, then I can notify the staff to check for problems.   I found some closets were clustered with junks that covered the switches’ ventilation and switch temperature went up (for some reason people at the remote sites think the switch closet is the storage for junks)

Out of 200+ closets I had three switches from h***, it thinks it is too hot:
Code: [Select]
FL-ORLANDO#sh env
Unit# PSU1      PSU2      PSU3      FAN1 FAN2 FAN3 FAN4 FAN5 FAN6 Temperature
----- --------- --------- --------- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- -----------
1     Primary   N/A       N/A       OK   OK   OK   OK   OK   OK   HIGH 56363480C
2     Primary   N/A       N/A       OK   OK   OK   OK   N/A  N/A  OK   34C

Reload the agent solved the problem for a few days.  All three problem switches are 5520.
Anyone has seen this problem?  Can 5500 switch shut itself down at high temperature?  I have seen 5500 switch stops switching when it is too hot, around 55-60C, and when the temperature comes back to normal, switch is still not working

Thank you,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I'm not 100% sure but I believe I've heard mention of this issue in the past. You might want to try 6.2.3 software. There's nothing in the release notes that seems related;

this problem solved in release 5.5 for ERS45xx and release 6.2.3 for ERS55xx
I recommend upgrade your software to latest release.
