I've posted a blog article on the subject...

http://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2011/05/ethernet-routing-switch-5000-software-release-v6-1-6-warning/

I know quite a few Nortel/Avaya folks quietly follow this forum and my blog daily.

Cheers!

don't often read your forum, but check the blog most evenings. We've had the 6.1.6 upgrade queued up on our firewall stack for a while and were waiting for a chance to reboot it, which we did at lunch time today in the hope of fixing other instabilities. :-[

The second unit in the stack was constantly rebooting. Luckily all our stuff is MLT'ed on the stack and the base unit was still switching, so we built a new stack with spare switches and the ascii config backup from before the upgrade, then re-patched all our DMZ hosts onto the replacement stack. At least we now know that can be done in under 30 minutes if we have to  :)

Moral of the story: Read your forum more often  ;)

A couple of ideas for you to try.  For the auto negotiation, have you tried editing your CANA fields to only allow for Gig Full Duplex?

As for the travel, if you used the partial default option could you still get connectivity if your remote switch kept it's IP address and put all ports onto vlan 1 untagged?

Cheers, Uncle John.
