Can't ping AP7131 through "Trunk Port"
« on: December 27, 2011, 09:03:45 AM »
Hello,

I have set up a trunk port between AP7131 and Cisco Switch. However, I can't ping the AP or get to GUI. Any configuration guides on how to do this?

Hi motto75 and welcome to the forums!

Perhaps you could post the configuration you used on your Cisco switch and the configuration you used on your AP7131?

Good Luck!

Cisco Switch Config:

interface FastEthernet0/6
 description ***Connected to AP7131***
 switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
 switchport trunk native vlan 650
 switchport mode trunk

RFS7000:

Network => Access Port => Configuration => Configure AP => VLAN Tagging

AP Native VLAN for LAN1 is "TAGGED"
Native VLAN ID = 650

AP Native VLAN for LAN2 is "TAGGED"

Ok, this is hilarious... I just fixed my issue after trying to fix it on and off for the past few months... On the left pane of the GUI, click on "Router", then Under "Default Gateway Interface", pick your native vlan. After that I was able to ping and ssh into the WS2000.

The problem is RFS7000-GR Series 4.1.1.0 Firmware doesn't have the option for "enable VLAN Trunking" for Access Ports under VLAN Tagging.

Your statement is a little confusing... the port can either be a trunk port or an access port.

Have a look at the following;
http://www.omnisecu.com/cisco-certified-network-associate-ccna/types-of-vlan-connection-trunk-links-and-access-links.htm

Once you make a port a trunk port you need to create a IP interface on a VLAN that is being trunked across that port.

Cheers!

Michael,

The controller is FIPS and the firmware is old. There is no "enable VLAN Trunking" feature for AAPs LAN1 port in the GUI. I am providing a screenshot. This might help.

I misunderstood you... you were referring to the wireless APs (Access Ports).

I though think by just selecting tagged, that you are enabling it. You need to be careful here because you'll run into the what came first problem with the chicken or egg. The AAP needs to connect to the RFS7000 to get it's configuration, if you change VLAN1 in the configuration you'll need to change your network switch port configuration. I haven't setup too many AAP configurations so I can't really tell you.

Sorry.
