AP not associating after firmware upgrade
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:27:01 PM »
Hi All

I have inherited a Motorola wireless project from another engineer, typical, and i am having difficulty understanding the reason why the AP300 will not associate with the WS5100. Apparently this AP and switch did work together but since the last engineer did a firmware ungraded the AP is no longer Associating.
I did some research on the software/firmware installed but, with my limited knowledge, am a little confused with the  firmware version - 08.00.10
Here is the output from :
*** show version ***

Version details:
---------------
Hardware Version             : WS-5100
Firmware Version             : 08.00.10
Software Version             : 2.1.5.0-003R

Any suggestion pointer much appreciated
Best regards
Bob  (newbie)

Excellent site by the way. One of the best around I'd say.

Hi wyrmbk and welcome to the forums!

There are only a few things that might be hanging up you up.

1) Was the AP300 supported with 2.1.5.x software? I'm not sure about that we might need to-do some research.
2) The AP300 will definitely need to be in the same Layer 2 network (VLAN) as the WS5100.
3) The AP300 might have been 'removed' from the configuration or the configuration might not be set to automatically adopt.

So those are really the issues. You should be able to launch the GUI via a web browser and see if the switch is configuration to automatically adopt the Access Ports. If so then i would check to see if the Access Port is in the list of APs that have been previously deleted and are no longer allowed to be adopted - if so you'll need to delete the AP from that list.

If you check the switch log you should be able to see what's going on... I think the CLI command might have been 'show log'.

Good Luck!
