wireless adapter , driver for roaming
« on: December 29, 2011, 04:44:08 AM »
Hello

802.11 roaming client issues

We are looking for wireless client adapter that send reassoc frame when roaming.

We observed that most of WIN7, XP notebooks does not reassociate when roaming ;
it disassociates with old AP and send assoc request to new AP instead of sending
reassoc frame to new AP with the current AP address in the reassoc request frame.

Have anyone used client adapter that send reassoc when roaming?

please provide link for driver, and which make, model of adapter.

Also we found that WIN7 roams only after losing signal with current AP isntead of
roaming when signal becomes week. Is there a USB adapter that would work this way?

thanks
sivak

Hi Sivak and welcome to the forums!

The functionality you are referring to is all a property of the driver utilized by the various WiFi adapters.

As I've written about on my blog (which I see you've posted to) there's quite a difference in how some of the WiFi adapters behave.

That post was back in 2009 so you'd need to take it with a grain of salt (hopefully the drivers have gotten better).

We found that the Cisco 802.11a/b/g card was the best and worked flawlessly for us.

Good Luck!
