Monitor and Troubleshoot your Network with MRTG and NTOP
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:47:36 AM »
I have a long Thanksgiving week-end, not on-call, kind of boring after watching football and my team won on Friday, so I started this blog.  My observation in forum lately about network monitoring, I found people have many different opinions about what is the best software to monitor and troubleshoot your network.   Well, if you are low on budget, nothing is better than open-source software.   I downloaded, and installed Backtrack, MRTG-RRD and Ntop and wrote down the steps in this blog.

Enjoy!
Peter

Thanks for the post Peter.

If you are looking to add some intelligence to your SYSLOG solution have a look at Marcus Ranum's paper on the topic;

Cheers!
