Hi raghu_g,

It looks like the Avaya Secure Router 1000, 2000 and 3000 series routers are close matches?

We are a Nortel/Avaya shop with 8600's for core and distribution. We use HP C Class Blades with GbE2c  switching in the enclosures. We have a requirement for 10gb switches and we are considering HP/Cisco B22 with 5548s to give use lacp connectivty to the servers. Also, we are looking at HP 10gb distribution 5820 or the new 5900's and the Avaya VSP 7000 or VSP 9000. My concerns are I cannot find many users of the VSP product and Avaya is losing market sharing according to Gartner. Anyone have experience comparing these products or why I should chose one or the other?

@213831

I would try out the VSP 7000 , I have done a lot of test with the VSP 7000 including
some connected HP Blade Enclosures. I was pretty amazed from the VSP7000, worked
fast and stable even with the 10.1 beta release.
I can not say anything good about HP switches, so you should make your own expierince with that.

Cheers
Itīs always the network...

Definitely agree with Paul L. If you get a quote for cisco and one for avaya you will definitely see the price difference. With that money I can invest in virtualization ;D .I still can't find a good argument why Cisco is so expensive. Some say :
- Feature wise
- Support / Service
Well something very strong about cisco is maybe their resources, but still...

Cisco gear is future wise because they want you to replace it every four years

I agree with the cost issue. Cisco is very expensive for what you get compared to many vendors. However what you do get is good support. I havent used cisco for years but when I had direct access to the TAC it was fantastic. Even if you dont have direct support, Ive found it much easier to get google technician support for cisco then I have ever got for Nortel.
I would say that Nortel seemed to be getting slightly better - just before they went bust.
