Block akamai ?
« on: January 05, 2012, 02:59:19 PM »
Are there any users that are blocking akamai? Some sites lose functionality if you block akamai. Any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

You're going to lose access to a LOT of sites that use the Akamai Content Distribution Network (CDN).

It might be better/easier to implement some type of content filtering, perhaps using OpenDNS?

I can remember trying to block multiple Akamai networks during the broadcast of the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies World Series parade in Philadelphia, PA. There were so many people watching the event on my network that it completely overloaded my 100Mbps Internet link.

The problem is you can not know all the costumers that AKAMAI has in its content distribution network.
If you block AKAMAI maybee in 2 weeks a buissiness critical service that somebody in your network is using
is hosted by AKAMAI.

So I wouldnīt block AKAMAI in fact you can not know what is all in the CDN.

Cheers
Itīs always the network...
