Beyond BGP - wan optimization
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:07:11 AM »
When using BGP to support multiple providers do you ever run into any issues when running links where one link is 3 or more times larger than the other link? Recently we ran across a pair of products one from F5 with their Big-IP series and one Radware called Linkproof which are suppose to "better optimize" the efficient use of the BGP connection and non BGP connections. Does this kind of product make sense in a BGP environment?

Hi PG,

Are you talking about 'content delivery' appliances and load balancers? There are quite a few content switches/load balancers out there that will optimize your client connections over multi-homed Internet connections... but I get the hint that your talking about internal networking, not just serving up content to Internet users.

Cheers!

Actually looking at a multi-homed BGP connection with links that are significantly different in bandwidth.
